About artist: Ramon Kassam is an Irish Artist. He is a graduate of Limerick School of Art & Design. He has had solo exhibitions at Temple Bar Gallery Dublin 2022, Green on Red Gallery, Dublin 2018 & 2016; Limerick City Gallery of Art 2015; and Pallas Projects, Dublin 2013. Group Shows include, The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum in Michigan (USA), The Lewis Glucksman Gallery - Cork, and EVA International Ireland's Biennale, Limerick (2014). He has received a number of awards and residencies. These include The Next Generation and Visual Artist Bursary Awards from the Arts Council of Ireland, and residencies with Askeaton Contemporary Arts, The Embassy of Ireland Addis Ababa, The RHA Tony O’ Malley Residency and Irish Museum of Modern Art. His work is represented in collections including, The National Self Portrait Collection of Ireland, Arts Council of Ireland, Limerick City Gallery of Art, Trinity College Dublin, Embassy of Ireland Ethiopia, Office of Public Works, and Corporate & Private Collections (IE, UK, USA).
About artwork: Paintings form the basis of Ramon Kassam’s practice , his approach in recent times is to invent a semi fictional world to cast his paintings in, as a means to imagine them into existence. This is ultimately painterly fantasy and it allows him to indulge in an appetite to compose and illuminate the nature and character of his paintings and their invented mythology, history and environments. Based in an alternate present time, he imagines the invented world to be a to be a place where painting is near extinct, abandoned, exterminated, and driven to the fringes. Holding out only in small pockets through out the Irish Landscape. Exhibited in Ramon Kassam’s 2022 Solo Exhibition at Temple Bar titled PAINTINGS From The LAST GALLERY ⅋ STUDIO, “Sign Painter” is one of growing number of paintings retrieved and emerging from Kassam's recent painterly fantasies.
